unEqual India

Well, as you can see from this post, I have decided not to use antonyms to write on conflicting or the agreeable ideas. Sometimes some ideas cannot take the form of a single word, so be it :)

Last week in a landmark judgment the Supreme Court of India upheld the reservations to the OBC's at a whopping 27% and the court cautioned the implementors of the act that the creamy layer to be excluded. The judgment was taken with the usual Indian sentiment, either they attacked it head-on and of course vociferously. Many others welcomed it. Some of us wondered, are we truly equal, democratic, maybe straining our Class 10 Civics textbook driven knowledge. Sigh! Nearly 55% of the seats reserved? How? 15(SC), 7.5(ST), 27(OBC) with decorator reservations for the kids of defence personnel, NCC cadets, sports quota etc etc. Let me not get into the mechanisms of how to get a seat for any course, or what are odds, based on numbers. Divide and rule, the British used diligently, and so are our nations policy makers. We learn rather fast, emulate 'em, especially in areas like this, we must be the quickest!

Me, Swaroopa and Gayathri attended a concert by Begum Parween Sultana at Rama Seva Mandali at Fort High School, Bangalore. We enjoyed the music to say the least, 2 to 2 1/2 treat to the ears. Well, the concert was over, as all good things must come to an end, but the good things were yet to come. She thanked, the organizers , the audience yada yada! Next day being Rama Navami, she said that she hoped that Lord Rama keeps blessing each one of us everyday. A nice to thing to say, Swaroop said and i agreed! Well, at least some equals among the unequals :)

Two events, entirely disconnected, yet so near, almost intertwined.
